"Holiday Ride 2008"
This motorcycle group ride has been organized by the SDSU Police Department to bring the SDSU community and surrounding law enforcement agencies together to celebrate the season! We encourage all SDSU employees, family, and friends to join us!
When:†† Sunday, December 21, 2008 @ 0800 hrs.
Where: †††† Meet at the SDSU Police parking lot (SDSU PARKING LOT N) at the intersection of 55th St. & Remington Rd., San Diego, CA 92182
Ride: We will be starting at SDSU PD, taking the freeway to the city streets of La Jolla & Torrey Pines; continuing along HWY 101 along the coast while passing through main streets of Del Mar, Cardiff-by-The-Sea, Encinitas, and Leucadia with a final destination in Carlsbad for a holiday brunch (exact destination for brunch to be determined; suggestions welcomed). Total round trip will be approximately 100 miles. The route planned is a cruising pace; all experience levels welcomed.
Donation: We will be riding in honor of Border Patrol Agent Denton Moberly. Agent Moberly was poisoned while on duty earlier this year & is currently fighting for his life. Donations are highly appreciated and 100% of the donations will be going directly to the Moberly family. UPDATE 9/4/08
I spoke to Moberly today and he is feeling very worn out but he told me that his morale is good and that he is looking forward to getting his treatments underway.
He also told me that his Doctor now believes that the treatments will allow him to heal to some degree witch is better than what he had been told originally.
Furthermore, I was speaking to Salinas in Laredo and he told me that the Welfare and Recreation down there was going to hold a bowling tournament on Moberly's behalf to help raise funds for him. You can read the announcement below.

UPDATE 9/1/08
I spoke to Moberly today and he was not sounding too good. I told him about all of the different ways that Y'all have come together to help and he wanted me to let everyone know how grateful he is for everything.
He is very weak but his Dr. believes that she can remove the poison from his system and prevent it from doing too much more damage. Chelation is a binding agent that will be administered (in this case) through an I.V. . The bonding agent will attach itself to the toxins in his body and allow him to flush them from his system. The process process will require him to go back and forth between his home and the hospital (a couple of hours away) twice a week. I am sure that I don't have to tell you how much this treatment is costing them in gas ALONE! Not to mention the medical treatment that the D.O.L. is still refusing to pay for.
The Dr. seems to be confident that she can slow or even stop the progression of the poison but she has stated that the existing damage probably cannot be reversed or mended.
Moberly's current condition is that he has limited use of his legs (he often utilizes a wheelchair or crutches to get around) and he has lost some of the sight in his right eye. There are several other complications as well, each one worse than the other it would seem, but it would take a long while to write them down. However, I am sure you get the idea.
It will be a long and difficult road for him and his family but it is easier for them when they see how much support they have in us.

Q) I'm sure I've worked with Moberly in one way or another but that's not the point. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. My question however is as to what the poison was and is/are there someone, we (the govt) investigating this crime? I'm actually very surprised this hasn't happened before.
A) Yes, There is an investigation that is ongoing involving several federal agencies as well as local LEOs. I can't go too deeply into the facts but he (Moberly) is believed to have been poisoned with an unidentified type of pesticide.
